The Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act was passed by the Parliament of India to inhibit female feticides and help improve the declining sex ratio in the country. The act specifically banned prenatal sex determination.
The objective of the legislation was to criminalize the use of gender selection techniques after conception and stop the misuse of prenatal diagnostic techniques leading to gender-selective abortions.
This solution was specifically designed and developed by MARG for the Department of Women and Child Development, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
